The star forward has not been as dangerous to score recently and was criticized for his performance against Arsenal on Sunday.
Pep Guardiola defended the 23-year-old at Tuesday’s press conference, but the City manager still chose to put him on the bench the following day.
Haaland has only been benched once this league season. It was against Burnley at the end of January. He then got 19 minutes on the pitch after being out with an injury in the previous five matches.
Before the meeting with Arsenal, he went goalless through the national team meeting for Norway. Haaland last scored in the series when City met city rivals Manchester United on 3 March.
Wednesday’s match is between third and fourth place in the Premier League. City need a win to stay in the title race with Arsenal and Liverpool.
