--

“P3 Gull” is an annual music festival where NRK honors the very best P3 music. Four awards were handed out, and some of the country’s most popular artists had the honor of performing in front of an enthusiastic audience in the H3 Arena. The show was broadcast live on NRK1 and on NRK TV.

Below you can read about this year’s award winners. “Artist of the year” and “Song of the year” were voted for by the audience ahead of the show, while a jury has arrived at the winners of “Breakthrough of the year” and the “P3 award”.

Karpe ran away with the award as artist of the year. They have not only broken Norwegian concert records by selling out Oslo Spektrum ten times this year, but Karpe is also helping to redefine our understanding of what a concert experience can be. Their innovative and perpetually exploratory approach to music makes them leading stars in the industry.

The award was presented by Karsten Blomvik, Adelina Ibishi and Tete Lidbom in P3morgen.

The nominees in this category were:

  • Subway
  • Ballinciaga
  • Carp
  • Ramón
  • Synne Vo

The popular duo walked away with their second award of the night. Karpe is constantly developing and releases music that hits the audience in new ways. “PAF.no” is a celebratory song about success and the aftermath that invites both dancing and singing along. Videos of festival audiences in Norway dancing and singing “Allah, Allah, ya baba” have gone worldwide this summer. There is little doubt that Karpe uses his influence to create music that is unifying and inclusive.

The award was presented by Fetisha Williams and Cengiz Al.

The nominees in this category were:

  • “PAF.no” – Carp
  • “Italy” – Underground
  • “Okay, I promise” – Ramón
  • “Dance on the table” – Ballinciaga

The jury named Jonas Benyoub the year’s breakthrough. With an enormous rap talent and lyrics that reflect a reality many people can identify with, the winner has really hit a nerve with the Norwegian people this year. By daring to be honest and vulnerable, hard-hitting and stoic, the jury believes that Jonas Benyoub will stand firm in the Norwegian music landscape for a long time to come.

The award was presented by Sigrid Solbakk Raabe and Chris Holsten.

The nominees in this category were:

  • Hedda Mae
  • Amanda Tenfjord
  • Aiba
  • Jonas Benyoub
  • Beethoven

The P3 award: Aurora

“P3 Gold”‘s honorary award goes to an artist, a band or producers who have meant a lot to Norwegian music over a long period of time. This year the “P3 prize” went to Aurora.

The award was presented by Arianrhod Engebø and Nathan Kahungu.

The jury’s reasoning:

Ever since her debut with the song “Awakening” in 2014, with which she also won Ukas Urørt, Aurora has done everything in her very own way.

Aurora has herself at her fingertips. With a gripping presence and crystal-clear vocal splendor, she creates musical magic. As a songwriter, she is uncompromising, and is able to combine a distinctive and exploratory expression with classic pop music. It has resulted in conceptual and unique albums and a large number of magnetic songs such as “Runaway” and “Cure for me”.

Aurora is a genuine artist who, with her authentic music and natural demeanor, has become a role model for many. She has used her music and voice to shed light on themes such as outsiders, and to celebrate what is different and unique.

Music lovers far beyond Norwegian borders have been enchanted by this unique space. Aurora has become a leading star in Nordic pop music, and will remain an important part of Norwegian music history.
