Sinner took Miami – Tennis Norway

--
Jannik Sinner – Grigor Dimitrov: 2 – 0 (6-3, 6-1)

22-year-old Jannik Sinner is in the process of impregnating himself as a future world leader after yet another demonstration of power.

This was the Italian’s third final in Miami – and finally the final place was converted into a title after he beat Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov with a strong and convincing 6-3, 6-1 in 73 minutes.

The result means that Sinner climbs to second place in the world rankings for the first time – and is now only 1,000 points away from Novak Djokovic who has the most points to defend going forward.

The title is Sinner’s second in the Masters class and 13th overall. It is the third of the season after he also won the Australian Open and ATP 500 Rotterdam.

Return to Top 10

For Grigor Dimitrov, the final place means that he returns to the Top 10 for the first time in a long time – and will be number nine on Monday, one place behind Casper Ruud.

The Bulgarian found his way back to his top level in Miami and will be one player going forward if he manages to maintain his level. He has been ranked as high as number three in the world and has a Masters and an ATP Finals title in his collection.

It was Dimitrov who knocked out Carlos Alcaraz in Miami.

In Brisbane earlier this year, he took his first title since his peak year in 2017.

First 1000 for Collins

American Danielle Collins beat Elena Rybakina in the women’s final 7-5, 6-3 in Miami on Saturday. The title is Collins’ first in the WTA 1000 category, her third singles title – and first since 2021.

Collins climbs 31 places in the world ranking – to number 22 in the world.

Ruud defends Estoril

The European gravel season starts now. Casper Ruud is in place in the ATP 250 Estoril Open in Portugal, where last year he won his tenth and provisional last title on the ATP tour.

Ruud is the first seed, has a bye in the first and will meet the winner of Botic Van de Zandschulp and Federico Coria in round two.

He could face Gael Monfils in the quarter-finals, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the semi-finals and Hubert Hurkacz in a possible final.

Eikeri in the WTA 500
