Baseball Clinches Spot in MAC Freedom Tournament with Sweep and Walkoff Win over King’s

Center Valley, PA (April 27, 2024) – The DeSales University baseball team swept a MAC Freedom doubleheader with King’s College, including a walkoff win in 10 innings in game two, to earn the fourth and final spot in the MAC Freedom postseason tournament on Saturday afternoon at Weiland Park.

The Bulldogs did what they needed to do, won two games over King’s, and got the help it needed as Arcadia took both games with Lebanon Valley College to give DSU the #4 seed. It is the Bulldogs’ 24th appearance in the MAC Freedom postseason tournament and marks the 23rd straight year DSU has made the postseason.

DSU will take on top seeded, Misericordia University, in the opening round three-game series starting on Friday.

Game One (W/8-7)
DSU took a 3-0 lead in this one scoring three times in the second inning before the Monarchs tied the game in the top of the third inning.

The Bulldogs regained the lead on a sacrifice fly from the first year Ty Akins in the bottom of the third and added two runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to lead 8-3 before holding off a late rally by King’s.

Sophomore Mike Hooker earned the win with 5 1/3 innings allowing just five runs and striking out four. Junior Frank Parrotti earned a save recording the final five outs.

Sophomore JT Anderosky had three hits and knocked in four runs. Kerr added two hits and junior Justin DeStaso scored three runs.

Game Two (W/8-7 – 10 Innings)
This game was tied at two after five innings before King’s scored five runs in the sixth to take a 7-2 lead.

DSU got two runs back in the sixth and another in the seventh to make it 7-5.

In the bottom of the ninth Kerr singled home senior Gavin Zavorski to make it 7-6 and later scored on a sacrifice fly from the sophomore Patrick Kusters sending the game into extra innings.

Anderosky opened the 10th with a bunt single and scored on a double to the wall from first-year Matt Worek giving DSU the sweep and a spot in the postseason.

Anderosky was 4-for-6 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Zavorski and Kerr each had two hits, DeStaso, sophomore John Rorickand first-year Jack Sague also had two hits.

Parrotti got the win pitching two scoreless innings of relief, striking out three.
