It is not only the Nobel prizes that are glamorous in the world of science. Every spring, the Breakthrough Prize, known as the “Science Oscars”, is held in Los Angeles.
And when this year’s awards went off at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, our own Magnus Carlsen (33) shone on the red carpet – for the first time together with Oslo girl Ella Victoria Malone (25).
Come hand in hand
At the glamorous event were award-winning actors such as Glenn Close (77), reality stars such as Kim Kardashian (43) and sports heroes such as tennis star Maria Sharapova (36).

In the crook of the arm
While both actor Orlando Bloom (47) and Tesla founder Elon Musk (52) came in tuxedos, Magnus posed with an open shirt in his suit.
And in the crook of his arm he therefore had Ella Victoria – with whom he was first observed together in February.

Through his impressive chess achievements, Magnus Carlsen has become known to the whole world. He has founded his own chess tournament, “Magnus Carlsen Invitational”, which has a collaboration with Breakthrough Initiatives and Breakthrough Junior Challenge.
Selling the palace
But at the Breakthrough Prize itself, he was just one of the glamorous guests who graced the award, which rewards ground-breaking scientific achievements in the life sciences, physics and maths.

It wasn’t just Magnus and Ella Victoria who chose this prestigious award as their first red carpet appearance as a couple.
The wealthy financier Bill Gates (67), who is one of the sponsors of the award ceremony, came arm in arm with his new girlfriend – Paula Hurd (60).
