The great purge of game studios continues. Now another 45 people have lost their jobs at Ubisoft, after the around 120 who were fired at the end of last year.

According to GameSpot, most of the layoffs this time were related to the global publishing structure and the Asia-Pacific region. Ubisoft made the following statement about the layoffs. “Over the past few months, all the teams at Ubisoft have been exploring how we can streamline our operations and improve our collective efficiency, better positioning us for long-term success.”

“In that regard, we announced today that we are further reorganizing our Global Publishing headquarters and APAC structure to adapt them to market developments with a more efficient and agile approach. These changes will affect a total of 45 positions.”

Ubisoft has had a pretty big 2024 so far in terms of releases, but not all of them have lived up to expectations. Skull and Bones couldn’t keep the pirates going for long, and Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown failed to generate much sales. Hopefully Assassin’s Creed Red and Star Wars Outlaws can pick up the pace.
