Kristiansand municipality – Environment week gets a new song

--

MiniPop 1 together with copywriter and environmental week leader Elizabeth Rojas (back right).

30 beautiful children’s and young people’s voices sing at the top of their lungs in the Krutt studio:

“What are we doing? We have to make things happen. Nature is calling you. Listen before it’s too late. We must take care of the environment. Take care of the forest, the mountain, the sea and everything that lives here. Today and tomorrow. We cannot measure generations, only in numbers and millions. We are the ones who live here, today and tomorrow.”

There is a good atmosphere, beautiful singing and a lot of energy when the children sing choir parts in the small studio on Odderøya. The recording takes place in groups, and those who are not in the sound studio cheer together with technician Ronny Bø in the control room. MiniPop 1 and 2 are guided by conductor Anne Risnes Torvik and Knuden vocals by Charlotte Wilhelmsen.

MiniPop 2 practices with Charlotte Wilhelmsen from Knuden vocals.

The children like the text

– It is very fun to sing this song, and very good that it is about the environment. I think the song is very nice, says Emma Holm, who is seven and a half years old and sings in MiniPop.

– We have learned about the environment at school, and about picking up litter. I am very fond of nature and animals, I especially like rabbits and dogs, and elephants, and all animals that begin with E, says Emma. She likes being in nature and going for walks, preferably to Stampa.

Chantelle Stavrum is 11 years old and also sings in MiniPop. She finds the song catchy and likes it very much.

– The text is correct, we must take care of the environment, clean up rubbish and ditch all the plastic. I like going for a walk in the forest, says Chantelle, who thinks it’s fun to take part in filming.

– The song was not difficult to rehearse. It’s fun to sing in a choir, especially singing together and the fellowship in a choir is good, says the chorister.

A fun pop song that you can dance to

Soloist Tomine Flo Gausdal (16 years old) also comes to the studio and will add something extra to the solo voice. Tomine won the singing competition “Våisen” in Sørlandet in 2022 and has been singing since she was a child.

The soloist thinks the song is a fun pop song that makes you want to dance to it, and likes that it has a good message about preserving nature and the environment, that’s important. She is looking forward to performing with the song at the opening party of Environment Week at Festningen on Monday 3 June at 16.00-19.00.

A song to inspire

The lyrics to the song “Today and tomorrow” were written by Elizabeth Rojas and Guttorm Strande Syrrist. The latter also composed the melody. The song will be sung and danced at all primary schools in Kristiansand one day during Environment Week, and will be launched during the opening party on 3 June.

– We hope this is a catchy song that inspires the children and is a wake-up call for us adults, says Miljøuka’s leader, Elizabeth Rojas.

– I think that a song is something that engages more than many words and projects. The song should remind us in a positive and happy way to do more and make important decisions to take care of our nature, says Elizabeth, lyricist of the song.

She has also received input from her eight-year-old son Emanuel for the text.
