This could be the hottest day of the year – NRK Vestland

--

It is heading towards the hottest day of the year so far in large parts of the country.

Yesterday, Bergen was the temperature winner with its 23.6 degrees. Even today, the westerners are poised to walk away with the heat winner so far this year.

Namely, the thermometer can show temperatures as high as 25 degrees in the outer regions of Vestland.

– It is sad when you have to go into the reading room and sit there for many hours when the weather is so nice, says Jakob Undheim Brudelid.

The group of student teachers have taken an ice break outside the SV faculty in Bergen, and are anxious to go inside again.

– Everyone is in a good mood, people are smiling and there are no umbrellas or rain jackets. It’s very nice, says sociology student Venuga Ranjan.

She is one of many who take frequent breaks from exam work today, even though the exam is tomorrow.

– It’s probably going to rain next week, so I can’t take the sun for granted now.

Tomorrow Ranjan will hand in her exam, but today there will be many breaks and trips out into the nice weather, even though she should actually be sitting inside and working, according to herself.

But it is not just in Western Norway that summer has made itself felt. Also in the rest of southern Norway and in Møre and Romsdal and Trøndelag, temperatures of over 20 degrees are expected today.

High pressure produces few clouds

On Tuesday last week it was warmer in Iceland than in Norway – but now the good weather has hit large parts of the country.

The reason for the high temperatures is that very warm air comes up from southern Europe and covers large parts of southern Norway.

– In addition, there is high pressure above us which gives few clouds in many places. And when the sun starts to heat up, it will raise the temperatures quite a bit, says state meteorologist Eldbjørg Moxnes.

Even state meteorologist Moxnes will try to be out in the good weather as much as possible.

  • The temperature winners today are clearly Vestland, which can get up to 25 degrees in the outer regions.
  • In Austlandet and the whole of southern Norway, temperatures will be the same as Wednesday, around 20 degrees. In some places they can rise even more.
  • In Møre and Romsdal and Trøndelag, around 20 degrees are expected today. Here, slightly more cloudy weather is expected than in Western Norway, but it will still be warm and good air.
  • In the outer regions of Nordland, temperatures of up to 17-18 degrees can be expected. Yesterday, 19.3 degrees were measured in Brønnøysund.

But in the far north one has to be patient.

An air mass divide runs between Nordland and Troms, and means that people in Troms and in Finnmark cannot expect more than five to ten degrees.

– Here there is more cold air from the north which dominates. The lowest temperatures are found especially in Aust-Finnmark. There is a big contrast between north and south these days, says Moxnes.

Have seen the boat in snowy weather before

In Valldal in Møre og Romsdal, Elisabeth Muri stands washing the window in the sunshine. She runs Muri camping in Valldal and notices that the guests get extra happy from the sun.

– When it’s sunny, people want to be out and tinker with the caravans, plant some flowers and play around.

– It’s a bit of a pain to wash windows in the sun, says Elisabeth Muri, but she does it anyway.

The married couple Randi Alnes Dyb and Harald Dyb have a permanent place at the campsite and have experienced a lot of different weather.

– When the fog lies down the mountain and it rains, then we drive from here. But today the plan is to do a bit of tiling before there is a trip in the lovely weather.

Regular camping guests Randi Alnes Dyb and Harald Dyb say the good weather offers many opportunities. – One can only enjoy it, says Randi.

At Blommenholm boat club in Bærum, Erik Aarnæs and Berit Storm have put out their sailboat for the summer.

– We have previously experienced snowy weather while we were setting out the boat, but today it was absolutely brilliant, says Aarnæs.

– Are they confident that summer is now here to stay?

– It looks promising for the next ten days, but at this time the weather is very changeable in this country.

It is not unusual for temperatures to fluctuate from around nine degrees, as last week, to up to 25 degrees this week.

– This is typically April-May. On and off with clothes and out and in with a bubble jacket and thin summer jacket, says state meteorologist Moxnes.

Forest fire danger and sunscreen

A forest fire warning has been issued for parts of East Norway, parts of South West Norway, in snow-free areas of Nordland and parts of South Troms.

– One should be careful with disposable grills in the next few days, says Moxnes.

The fire ban now applies, which means that it is not allowed to light fires, use fire pans, disposable grills or other open fires in the countryside.

Other things may be important to think about, for those who are going to enjoy the summer sun today and towards the weekend:

– It is okay to put on sunscreen if you are going to be out in the sun for a long time, so that you do not get sunburned at the first opportunity, says the state meteorologist.

She reminds that it has been a long time since winter skin has been exposed to strong sun, so one should be a little careful.

Also nice at the weekend

The summer weather will continue into the weekend. Especially in southern Norway, you can expect nice days with high temperatures and lots of sun, at least up to and including Saturday.

From Sunday, the temperatures will drop a little, and there may be precipitation after a while.

Here, too, the north will be the temperature losers, because then the cold air that has settled over Troms and Finnmark will move a little south and hit Nordland during the weekend.

In the Finnmark area, there will be precipitation in the form of snow.

– But otherwise, a good deal of sun is expected in northern Norway. So the weather will be a bit changeable.
