Parts of the E4 were closed on Wednesday morning, and people were warned not to go out on the roads. The chaos is due to many truck trains getting stuck, and many accidents have been reported, writes Aftonbladet.

Jönköping’s rescue chief describes the night as the worst in almost 30 years.

– I have not been involved in such extensive snow since 1995, says assistant rescue manager Göran Melin.

Rescue crews have been driving around since Wednesday night and handing out hundreds of water bottles, energy bars and blankets to motorists stuck in the queue.

Just before 8 o’clock on Wednesday morning, people were still stuck in their cars on the E4 at Huskvarna, and the queue was a few kilometers long, but not as long as a few hours earlier.

The rescue service has cut off the crossroads in some places so that cars could get on. In some cases, motorists have been helped to back out of the queue.

– We have five large wheel loaders that have pushed car after car. We have solved the queue from two directions, says Melin.

He states that one person has been taken to hospital, but that most people in the queue seem to have managed well.

Sweden’s Meteorological Institute SMHI has issued an orange danger warning, which means that you should not go out and drive unless it is strictly necessary.

The situation may also have been influenced by the fact that some had already switched to summer tyres.
