Let’s not beat around the bush, April only has a fraction of what March has to offer for gaming fans. There are limited major launches this month, and of the major launches, very few have the same heft and weight that we’ve seen in previous months. Still, there are new games to look forward to, so with that in mind we can dive into a new episode of GTLF.

Sons of Valhalla (PC) – April 5

In this pixel battle and base building game from Pixel Chest, players must build fortresses and lay siege to enemy strongholds in medieval England. This is a game about conquering and plundering, and as the name suggests, you do this as a brutal and dangerous Viking warrior.

Botany Manor (PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Switch) – April 9

If you enjoyed the challenge that Escape Academy and Maquette offered, you’ll definitely fall in love with Balloon Studios’ Botany Manor. This exploration title is all about using your botanical skills to research and grow exotic plants while uncovering the secrets of the English manor where you live.

No Rest for the Wicked (PC) – April 18

Moon Studios is best known for their Ori games, but soon they’re going to bring us something completely, completely different. Tales of Kenzera: ZAU (PC, PS5, Xbox Series) – April 23

The latest in EA’s Originals series, Tales of Kenzera: ZAU is a Metroidvania-style platformer where players explore a striking and dangerous spiritual world in the role of a young boy who has negotiated with the god of death in an attempt to bring his father back from the darkness. The game gives players an authentic taste of African culture and is about embracing grief and finding strength when all seems lost.

Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes (PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Switch) – April 23

Rabbit & Bear Studios brings us a truly broad and expansive take on a modernized JRPG this April with Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes. This game takes players to a stunning HD 2D world where they must guide over 100 characters through a vast world and try to save it from being torn apart by warring neighboring countries.

Phantom Fury (PC) – April 23rd

Boomer shooters may never have been as popular as they are now. Slipgate Ironworks knows this, and this April they will entertain their fans with an action-packed, blood-drenching and 80s-style shooter where the player takes on the role of an American hero who is tasked with traveling across the country to save humanity from cruel and deadly mutant creatures and cruel soldiers.

Another Crab’s Treasure (PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Switch) – April 25

When a developer is known as Aggro Crab, you can probably expect them to make games based on crustaceans. Fortunately, that’s exactly what we’re getting with Another Crab’s Treasure, a Souls-like game where you, as a hermit crab, must embark on a monumental journey to buy back your shell while working to prevent the collapse of the undersea kingdom you call home .

Sand Land (PC, PS5, Xbox Series) – April 26

Akira Toriyama recently passed away, but his genius lives on in his works. We see that once again in the action-RPG game Sand Land, where the player becomes the demon prince Beelzebub and ventures into the harsh desert to hunt for the legendary spring using a variety of vehicles. With plenty of customizable vehicles and a wide combat suite that allows players to use all of Beezlebub’s demonic powers, Sand Land looks set to be one of April’s biggest titles.

Top Spin 2K25 (PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series) – April 26

Whether you like tennis games or not, it’s an exciting development to see Top Spin back in action. When 2K returns with this tennis franchise, players will have the opportunity to play on the pro court alongside the best and most iconic pros to ever compete in the sport, all in pursuit of trophies and etching your name into the history books alongside the best who has ever been on the pitch.

Stellar Blade (PS5) – April 26

We can almost guarantee that you’ve seen Stellar Blade at one point or another since it came out, most likely because of the rather provocatively designed main character. But whatever you think of this, Stellar Blade is PlayStation’s big launch in the month of April. This is an action-adventure in which the player becomes the robotic EVE and is tasked with unraveling the mysteries surrounding the end of Earth and what led to the formation of the malevolent force that destroyed civilization on the entire planet.

Sea of Thieves (PS4, PS5) – April 30

Like Grounded, Sea of Thieves is the same game that PC and Xbox gamers have enjoyed for years, but since it’s a major Microsoft-owned and -developed series debuting on Sony’s PlayStation consoles, we’ve chosen to include it in this month’s GTLF.

And that brings us to the end of the month. Check back in a few weeks, when we take a look at what May 2024 has in store for gaming fans.
