In recent weeks alone, there have been several shooting episodes. At the same time, city council leader Eirik Lae Solberg claims that there have been 133 fewer police officers in Oslo in the past year.

Last Saturday when a person was shot through a window at a kebab restaurant in Smalgangen in Greenland.

The owner of the restaurant, Ali Issam Kanaan, was at work when the shooting happened.

– It was terrifying. I don’t know how to describe the feeling when you are doing your job, and then it suddenly feels as if you can disappear out of the world, out of the blue.

– Crush the money stream

Trygve Slagsvold Vedum is leader of the Center Party and Minister of Finance. He believes that the government now prioritizes the police.

– There has been more money into the police, but the costs have been demanding, says Vedum.

– We must both take the gangs to the streets, but we must also crush the flow of money and take the big guys behind those who are on the streets.

Vedum goes to great lengths to announce that more money may come to the police this year.

– They will see when the revised budget comes. We will invest more heavily. There will also be a tougher fight against drugs.

– Tipping point

City councilor in Oslo, Eirik Lae Solberg (H), says he is concerned that there are violent episodes in the city almost daily.

– The first and immediate thing that is needed is more police officers in Oslo. Unfortunately, things are going in the wrong direction now, says Solberg to NRK måndag morgon.

In particular, he points out that violent crime between children and young people is increasing a lot and that the most important thing that can be done is to give the police more resources.

– We are at a tipping point in Oslo, a very serious situation. Either we get rid of crime now, or it will develop and become even worse, believes Solberg.

He believes that Vedum and the government downplay the police’s own figures on how many resources they have available.
