Kristiansand municipality – Invites to a brainstorming session for Children’s Architecture Day

--

Gisela Nilsen (th) has been involved since the start in 2018, while Christina Rasmussen is new to the organizing team for Children’s Architecture Day. Both hope that many will sign up for the brainstorming session on 23 May.

– It is important to increase children’s and young people’s knowledge of architecture. They are tomorrow’s residents, and it is for them that we build today, says Christina Rasmussen, architect and urban planner in Kristiansand municipality.

She has taken over the baton from Nina Malo as Gisela Nilsen’s co-responsible in the organizing duo for the popular architecture day. This year it will be held for the sixth time.

Building with giant pillow building blocks has been one of several popular activities at Knuden.

Popular day

The previous events have been well attended. Last year, several hundred children and adults flocked to the Rådhuskvartalet, Knuden and the Cathedral to take part in activities such as a church walk, graffiti workshop, building with various materials, and design using artificial intelligence, to name a few of the items on the rich event programme.

Then Gisela and Nina had with them a wide range of co-organisers, from bicycle suppliers and Kunstsilo to architects and artists. Several of the municipality’s own units also provided competent professionals to lead various activities.

Many creative miniature balconies saw the light of day during last year’s Children’s Architecture Day.

Hoping for a good response

The newly formed organizing duo hopes at least as many will be co-organisers at this year’s architecture day, which starts on 19 October.

– We hope more architectural offices will open their doors to the children, says Gisela Nilsen, but adds that everyone who works with architecture, architectural history, art, space, construction, planning and building is most welcome to the brainstorming session, which will take place in the Town Hall quarter on 23 May .

– The brainstorming session is a great way to get to know each other and share ideas for joint projects, points out the architect.

Registration for the brainstorming session

Interested parties are asked to register via e-mail to [email protected]

NB! If you cannot participate in the brainstorming session, but would like to contribute to Children’s Architecture Day in October, Gisela and Christina would still like to hear from you.
