The government announces that they want to establish a national center for vocational subjects and this is very interesting for Rogaland.

There is no doubt that Rogaland is the right county for a national center for vocational subjects, and Haugalandet is a strong candidate for location. With varied and very strong business clusters and cornerstone companies, and with a business community that contributes to our county training the most skilled workers in the country, Haugalandet is an excellent location for a national centre.

The most important thing in this round, however, is not to have an internal localization debate, but to highlight the strengths of our entire county. This way we stand stronger in the competition against the rest of the country.

The strong business community in Vestland, Møre og Romsdal, Trøndelag and Østlandet are also on the ball to get the national center for vocational subjects to their county. There will be stiff competition. We still believe that there is no doubt that Rogaland is the right location. The fact that we educate the most skilled workers in the country shows that we are doing a lot right.

It is Rogaland county council’s model with training offices that works best for apprentices. It is our good contact with the local business community that enables us to adapt our training offer and ensure that we educate students with the right and adapted knowledge. The entire political environment in county politics stands united around this.

The majority in the county council passed the following last week: “A national center for vocational subjects should be established in Rogaland, which is the country’s leading vocational training county and which has great expertise in this field.”

When Rogaland county council is now working to get a national center for vocational subjects to our county, we should have a thorough process when a candidate is to be appointed as host. Business, the vocational training board and the municipalities will give their input. Haugalandet is a strong candidate.
