THE DRAMA: Just after 8am on Tuesday morning, the emergency services received a report from someone who heard a smoke alarm and saw smoke coming from a home in an apartment complex in Hans Kiærs gate.
When the fire brigade arrived at the scene, smoke was quickly confirmed in one of the apartments. Smoke divers quickly entered and found one person.
– We took the person out of the apartment. The person had inhaled some smoke, but appeared to be in good shape, says fire service manager Vegard Hennum.
Dry boil
According to Drammens Tidende’s reporter at the scene, smoke was coming out of the windows of the apartment in question. However, there should not have been any open flames.
– There was quite a lot of smoke when we got here, but there were no open flames. It was due to cooking and dry boiling, says Hennum.
At 08.45 the fire service was still in action at the scene together with the other emergency services.
– Now we carry out a follow-up check, then we air out the apartment in question, says Hennum.
At 9 o’clock the agencies closed. Six neighbors who were evacuated have been allowed back into the apartments in question.
Three fire engines, three police cars and an ambulance rushed to the scene.
– Dangerous
A great many fires and outbreaks of fire start on the stove, fire statistics from DSB show. Fortunately, it went well this time.
– On a general basis, I can say that dry boils can very quickly become serious. You have to watch when you cook, encourages Hennum.
The reason why a dry boil occurred in the apartment in question in Hans Kiærs gate is currently unknown.
