In a press release from the Norwegian Armed Forces, road users in Ofoten are asked to watch out for military columns on the E6 and E10.

This applies in the week between Friday 26 April and Friday 3 May.

Then military columns will drive the stretch Narvik – Bjerkvik, and Bjerkvik – the national border over Bjørnfjell. This is in connection with the military exercise Immediate Response.

On Friday 26 April and Saturday 27 April, several columns will run from Narvik harbor (E6), through Narvik to Bjerkvik (E6/E10).

From Monday 29 April to Friday 3 May, convoys run from Bjerkvik (E6/E10) to the national border Bjørnfjell (E10) and on into Sweden. The speed limit will be reduced on a stretch from Bjerkvik in the direction of Narvik.

This is what the Norwegian Armed Forces are asking Ofoten’s road users to be aware of:

  • Military convoys run slower than ordinary traffic, temporary closures may occur. Therefore, calculate extra driving time.
  • Military vehicles are large, and the blind spots are correspondingly large. Use caution as your vehicle may be difficult to spot.
  • The columns are marked with signs with the text “MILITARY CONVOY” or “MILITÆR KOLONNE”, at the front and back of the column.
