Fresh applicant figures from Samorda Opptak show that economics and administration are the second most popular study area: 25,671 applicants have economics as their first choice for study.

A total of 142,416 people have applied for a study place in higher education via Samorda Opptak, and health subjects are the most popular area with 32,177 applicants. Finance and administration increases the number of first-choice applicants by 10.2 per cent.

Law, on the other hand, has a decrease in the number of first-choice applicants, to 9,982, down 1.2 per cent from last year.

Nevertheless, it is jurisprudence in Oslo that has the most applicants for its programme, with 2,102 applicants for 224 places, followed by jurisprudence in Bergen with 2,055 applicants for 374 places.

Two studies at NHH

Last year, Norway’s School of Economics topped the table with 2,170 applicants for the civil economics degree. This year, it looks as if the schools have fallen from first place, but that is because the school for the first time has two bachelor’s programmes, both of which are part of the economics education. In addition to the Bachelor in Economics and Administration (BØA), the school has started Bsc Business, Economics and Data Science.

The brand new program received 1,101 applicants, while the traditional bachelor’s program received 1,729 applicants.

In total, the school thus received 2,830 first-place applicants this year, who are competing for 500 places.

– These are very solid application numbers, says rector Øystein Thøgersen.

– We offer very attractive study programmes, and this year’s figures from Samordna Opptak show that in the autumn we can admit a new batch of highly talented students, says Thøgersen.

– The total number of applicants is higher than ever, and they are spread over the well-established and recognized BØA programme, and now also on the international BEDS programme, which is tailored for those who want an economics education with a particular emphasis on mathematics, computer- analysis, programming and technology.

NHH’s labor market survey which came out earlier this year showed that 97 per cent of the new graduates from 2023 were in work or further studies half a year after the end of their studies.

93 per cent of NHH graduates got a job while they were still students.

The average total salary for the newly graduated candidates was NOK 684,832, including additional benefits.

Stable numbers

Industrial economics and technology management (entrance) at NTNU received 1,233 applicants, compared to 1,245 last year. Then there were some who changed their gender to female in order to enter the study program, as women then received extra points on admission. This year there are no extra points for women on admission to this course.
