Russia, Nuclear Weapons | Russia announces military exercise for use of tactical nuclear weapons

Dagbladet writes that, among other things, they will train in the preparation and use of tactical nuclear weapons. Tactical nuclear weapons are smaller nuclear weapons used in active combat, and thus differ from strategic nuclear weapons, which are larger.

“Provocative statements and threats against Russia” from Western officials are said to be the reason why the country now chooses to carry out the exercise.

– The aim of the exercise is to ensure Russia’s security after provocative statements from Western representatives, says the statement from the Russian Ministry of Defence.

It is not known when it will actually take place, but Russia often conducts nuclear exercises. In October, the country carried out an exercise which, according to the Kremlin, aimed to repel a nuclear attack on land, at sea and in the air.

TASS also writes that the exercise must have been ordered by Vladimir Putin, and that the exercise will take place in the southern military district of Russia.

In autumn 2022, they also carried out an exercise in the Barents Sea, which was supposed to simulate a massive Russian nuclear attack in response to a nuclear attack against Russia.
