Sales in 2024

The Real Estate and Urban Renewal Agency leads the collaboration with the other municipal building managers with the aim of bringing more vacant buildings into use. Several properties are now being prepared for sale, and already in May the first properties will be announced.

– We started with a couple of out-of-town properties in Moss and Asker and are following up according to plan with the announcement of Tryvannstårnet, old Furuset nursing home and Skar camp this summer. Later this year, among other things, Drammensveien 225 will be for sale. Mosseveien 197 and Mosseveien 203 will also be put up for sale, given political approval. It is a complex and exciting property portfolio that will reach the market during the year, says agency director Eskil Bråten at the Real Estate and Urban Renewal Agency.

The work with the municipality’s vacant buildings is continuous and dynamic work.

– This work gives us a good overview of what has happened since the last time, and what we should prioritize going forward. The city council has a particular focus on selling the buildings the municipality does not need itself, and this year more properties are coming on the market. New owners can give these buildings new life, says city councilor for urban development James Stove Lorentzen.

Background

In 2023, a separate project was created to intensify work with the municipality’s vacant buildings.

The project is led by the Estates and Urban Renewal Agency, which, together with the municipality’s other building managers (Oslobygg KF, Boligbygg Oslo KF, Culture Agency and Bymiljøetaten) and Byantikvaren, must ensure effective follow-up and implementation of measures for the municipality’s vacant buildings.

The project is responsible for following up the rehabilitation of selected buildings, the sale of buildings that are no longer suitable for municipal purposes and the demolition of buildings in very poor condition and with little conservation interest.

In connection with budget 2024, 125 million has been set aside for priority measures for the vacant buildings over the next four years.

The former use of the buildings is very complex and the properties include, among other things, nurseries, child welfare institutions, nursing homes, housing, defense facilities, shooting towers, leisure properties and cottages and houses in the fields.

The buildings are geographically spread across the city’s 15 districts and seven properties are outside the city. Ten of the properties are located in regulated open areas in the countryside and on the islands. Conservation interests are attached to 44 of the properties. Many of the buildings are in great need of rehabilitation, some have conservation value and several of the buildings are unsuitable for municipal use and require preparation for new use for various reasons.
