– I am not running for re-election now. But I give no guarantees for 2028, says the seasoned Frp politician to TV 2.

Hagen turned 80 on Monday, but is still active in politics. During the general election in 2021, Hagen stood for election in Oppland, where he was elected on an equalization mandate.

He was the leader of the Progressive Party from 1978 to 2006, and sat in the Storting between 1981 and 2009 before being re-elected in 2021.

– I want to thank Carl for the wonderful effort he has put in for Norway and the Progress Party for several decades in Norwegian politics, says Frp leader Sylvi Listhaug in a statement to VG.

– Carl has always been ahead of his time. If Norwegian politicians had listened more to Carl in the 70s and 80s, Norway would have been an even better country today. Carl is and has always been a great role model for us in the Progress Party, says Listhaug.

A few weeks ago, Hagen was hospitalized with pneumonia.
