England’s answer to the South

Now the head of tourism in the British holiday favorite Cornwall is also warning that they will also follow suit.

Cornwall is an area located in the very south west of England. It is known for its good temperatures and beaches, and is often referred to as “the British answer to the South”.

According to The Independent, over four million people visit Cornwall on holiday each year, while a further 12 million take day trips there, according to a report by a local committee.

Malcolm Bell, head of Visit Cornwall, thinks a “Cornish tax” should now be considered to get something back for these visits.

– It is time to have the debate, not hasten action, engage people and look at what is possible, says Bell to the local newspaper Cornwall Live.

Will give the money to local businesses

However, the tourism boss believes the tax should go straight back into the pockets of local businesses, rather than the tax authorities getting it, given that Britain is already one of the highest taxed countries in Europe, beaten only by France.

According to Bell, the neighboring county of Devon should also introduce a tourist tax, so as not to scare tourists away from Cornwall.

The Norwegian authorities are still debating whether, where, how and when a tourist tax should be introduced in Norway.
