In Ekstra Bladet’s new podcast “She met a murderer”, the events surrounding Mia’s murder are examined in more detail.

In the podcast you find out that Thomas Thomsen, before he left his home in Flauenskjold to drive to Aalborg, where he picked up Mia, switched off the mobile phone and the GPS in the car.

But it wasn’t enough.

Despite these attempts to cover his tracks, a technical error at Connected Cars resulted in his exact location being “logged” every 15 seconds.

But it doesn’t stop here.

The 37-year-old electrician from Northern Jutland continues to maintain his innocence in connection with the horrific crimes against Mia Skadhauge Stevn, and soon – more precisely on 13 May – the appeal will start, which promises to be a thorough psychological examination of a man who is described as both narcissistic and emotionally cold.

In the courtroom and through the media, Thomas Thomsen’s personality traits have been the subject of intensive analysis.

And a mental examination from the summer of 2023 painted a picture of a dyssocial and dangerous person:

– He has a striking lack of empathy towards other people. Nor towards the victim, the victim’s next of kin or their own next of kin. He has no guilt. During the investigation, at no time did he relate to other people’s feelings and situations, said state attorney Mette Bendix during the trial.

– He has an immature self-image and appears narcissistic and self-judgmental towards others. He is like a child who needs to be in the center and wants attention, it says.

Pre-trial detention

The lack of empathy is not only seen in Thomas Thomsen’s relationships, but also in his interactions while he was in custody. According to the investigation, he behaved condescendingly and aggressively, especially towards women.

That’s what Ekstra Bladet writes.

The psychologists used an interesting technique where they replaced each other during the conversations with Thomas Thomsen. The alternation between a male and a female psychologist revealed marked differences in his behavior, from self-praise and pride to a more withdrawn and disinterested attitude. The observations support the broader characterization of Thomas Thomsen as someone who cannot realistically assess his own abilities or understand the consequences of his actions.

The upcoming appeal, in which both Thomas Thomsen appealed the verdict because he wants to be acquitted and the prosecution appealed the verdict in order to get him convicted of consummated rape and a harsher punishment, is expected to shed further light on the psychological aspects of the case.

At the end of June, Thomas Thomsen was sentenced to custody by the Court of Appeal in Aalborg after he was found guilty of indecent handling of a corpse, attempted rape and murder of Mia Skadhauge Stevn.
