This week there will be many hours of live broadcast on Petra Mede (54). The Swedish presenter leads the “Eurovision Song Contest” from Malmö Arena in both the semi-finals on 7 and 9 May and the final itself on 11 May.

This is actually the third time that Petra has hosted the popular music competition. In 2013, she led the broadcasts alone, also that time the final took place in Malmö Arena.

In 2016, she regained confidence. Then she guided the audience through the program together with Måns Zelmerlöw (37), who brought the victory home to Sweden the year before with the song “Heroes”.

This year, she shares the task with Hollywood actor Malin Åkerman (45).

Had a child at 52

Petra first became known in Sweden as a stand-up comedian. Later, she has been a popular presenter for, among others, “Let’s Dance”, “Hjulet” and “Melodifestivalen”.

She has played in several films and TV series, such as the popular “Bonusfamilien”. She had to give up the role of Katja when she became very ill from covid in 2020, ended up in hospital and had to prioritize her health.

WITH THE DAUGHTER: In 2016, Petra appeared on the red carpet with her eldest daughter Adeline, who was then three years old. Mother and daughter were going to see the cinema premiere of “Teddy Bear on Tour” in Stockholm.

Petra has written the autobiography “Svindlande stunder i Blackeberg” and held the comedy show “50/50” about life as a 50 plus person.

Big things have also happened in Petra’s life after she turned 50. At 52, she had her second child.

From before, she had a daughter Adeline (11), whom she had together with her former partner Mattias Günther. The two separated when their daughter was two years old.

However, she got little Paula all by herself.

Petra only revealed her pregnancy when she was six months along. Then the stage was set for the premiere of a new season of “Let’s Dance”, and she realized that she would not be able to hide her growing belly ahead of the finale in May.

– This did not happen by itself, it is very long-awaited, she said in “Nyhetsmorgon” on TV4. She denied that there was a father in the picture.

– No, I do this on my own, as I do with so much else in life, answered Petra.

– Today there is so much technical help available, and I have made use of it. There is of course no guarantee of getting pregnant, but for me it worked, she told Svenska Dagbladet.

A little shocking

The pregnancy went very well for the then 52-year-old woman.

– It feels great. You take it one day at a time, as with all pregnancies, but so far I am grateful and very happy, she told the magazine Amelia in May 2022.

Daughter Paula was born in June of the same year.

Life as a single mother of two was a bit of a shock at first

– It is incredibly upsetting to have a child, your whole life changes. It’s like a new being that you don’t know who it is, she said in the TV program “Efter fem” four months after the birth.

Putting the ego aside

Petra was well over 40 when she became a mother for the first time.

– I wasn’t very young when I had my first child, so I don’t know what it’s like to be a 20-year-old mother. It’s not something I reflect on since I’m the age I am. I know myself who I am and have been able to do so much career-wise. Your own ego is put aside when you become a mother, she told Amelia.

Now life is exactly as Petra wants it.

– I love working and being a mother, those are the two things I think are absolutely wonderful, she has told Aftonbladet.

Petra protects her privacy and very rarely talks about her daughter Adeline, and would not answer how her daughter thought it was to become a big sister.

– We have an agreement that we do not talk about her. What she thinks, she will – if she were to become a public figure – tell about when she grows up, she explained in an interview with P4 Extra.
