According to CNBC, the Chinese smartphone company Xiaomi has announced that it will sell its first car, the SU7 electric car, for far less than Tesla’s Model 3, with which it compares. On Thursday, Xiaomi presented the price list for the new cars.
According to CNBC, Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun has stated that the standard version of the SU7 will be sold in China for 215,900 yuan, corresponding to just over NOK 324,000.
He further said that the company is thus selling the cars at a loss. In comparison, Tesla’s Model 3 costs from 245,900 yuan.
At the same time, the director claimed that the standard version of the SU7 beats the Model 3 on more than 90 percent of the specifications.
He also said that the SU7 had a minimum range of 700 kilometers, compared to the Model 3’s about 600 kilometers. The company said orders had topped 50,000 cars in less than half an hour after sales opened.
Xiaomi’s factory will be largely automated, and according to the director, the company will be able to produce an SU7 every 76 seconds. Deliveries are expected to begin by the end of April.
Recently, great competition has formed in the Chinese electric car market, which is experiencing strong growth.
Sales of new electric cars have increased sharply, and now account for about a third of new passenger cars sold, according to the China Passenger Car Association.
