Here you get the most affordable car wash

--

– Washing the car is very important to keep it looking good. It is especially wise to wash it carefully after a winter with a lot of snow and well-salted roads, says Jan Harry Svendsen in NAF.

The salt from the winter roads leaves its mark and can do more damage to your car than you think.

Brake discs, brake pipes, undercarriage and wheel suspension quickly suffer from rust damage, and this can lead to expensive workshop bills if you do not flush the car regularly during the winter months.

– Rust is the most dangerous consequence if you are careless with the car wash, says Svendsen.

That’s how often you should wash

So, how often should you actually wash your car, and how should you preferably do it?

Weather, driving conditions, where you drive and how much you drive all play a part in determining that.

The NAF expert believes it makes sense to introduce a routine of regular cleaning.

– Every fortnight is a very good interval. Some people wash the car more often, but you have to remember that you put a little wear and tear on the paint every time you wash the car, says Svendsen.

When the season for dry asphalt is now upon us, you should in any case do an extra thorough spring cleaning of your car.

– After winter, it is particularly important to be careful with the car wash. Rinse the inside of the wheel arches, remove all dirt that has accumulated and get it properly clean, says Svendsen.

When you first start cleaning, you must also remember to wash the inside of the car. Here you should look over the interior, wipe dust, and remove dirt and grime from the mats.

Hand wash or gas station?

Some people prefer to wash their car in a machine at the service station, while others like to do it themselves. The best, cheapest and most gentle alternative is to wash the car by hand, believes Svendsen.

– We recommend hand washing. The result is the best, it gives the car minimal wear and tear and it is much more affordable than with a washing machine, he says.

Svendsen also highlights another major advantage of washing the car by hand; you study the car and its nooks and crannies up close.

– By washing it by hand, you get a completely different impression of your car. Then you can detect paint damage, stone chips and scratches at an early stage – damage you wouldn’t see if you ran the car through a washing machine, he says.

You should think about this when machine washing

If you still want to wash the car in a machine, Svendsen recommends you go for a variant without brushes.

– Brushless car wash is the gentlest for your car, because you don’t have mechanical brushes that come into contact with the paintwork.

Nevertheless, Svendsen advises you to make a balance. Because with a brushless machine wash, your car will not be as clean as in a wash with brushes. In addition, the brushes in new washing machines are much better and more gentle than they have been in the past.

– Mechanical removal of dirt is more effective than just flushing, but if you are afraid of scratches and damage, then you should definitely drop it, he says.
