May be finished

– I haven’t quite decided on the way forward. I’m still hungry to ski and perform, but I haven’t made the decision completely, says Røthe to Dagbladet.

– So you’re considering quitting now?

– Yes, I am 35 years old. Then I realize that I have been ill a lot and have been unsure for a few days whether my body is ready for further top sporting life. I need to spend more time. I haven’t quite made up my mind, admits Røthe.

Along with Sindre Bjørnestad Skar, Røthe is one of the veterans who is retiring from the national team. It became clear when the Ski Association presented the men’s and women’s national teams for next season on Wednesday.

Røthe struggled a lot with illness last season, and the year was difficult. Therefore, it did not come as a surprise to the 35-year-old that he had not been selected.

– I’ve known about it for quite some time. I have realized that I have been in a bad position, so it was completely understandable that the withdrawal was the way it was. It was no surprise.

– I was not disappointed. Those who have been selected deserve the place, he clarifies.

Røthe has been one of the stars of the cross-country circus in recent seasons, and has, among other things, three WC gold medals on her CV.

Earlier this year, he revealed to NTB that he had not decided on his cross-country career further.

He repeats that message to Dagbladet, and says that a decision will probably be made by April.

– I hope and believe that I will agree with myself by then.

He is now in the thinking box.

– I have more in me as a skier, and I don’t feel quite finished. I think I can perform in the WC this winter. It pulls up.

If the 35-year-old chooses to focus on the WC in Trondheim next year, it must therefore happen outside the national team.

– I have been involved in a lot. I was there at home in 2011, and that excitement towards the championship. I absolutely want to try, but I have to see a bit, says the profile.
