A torrential rainfall has meant that all residents of Los Angeles are asked to stay away from the sea until at least Wednesday.
This is as a result of the sea being heavily roughed up after the storm, local media reports.
The high level of bacteria can make people sick, which is especially true for the elderly and children.
The warning applies to the entire coast of Los Angeles, including the famous Santa Monica beach.
After a heavy period of rain, days of fine weather are expected, and it is in this context that the authorities are now warning.
At the same time, the authorities say that the warning to avoid the sea can be extended.
