After the man was last seen on Saturday afternoon, there have been several rumors related to what happened in the run-up to the 35-year-old’s disappearance.
– The flood of rumors probably creates the greatest challenges for the next of kin, who receive a lot of information in various channels. It’s never anything particularly auspicious. For the investigation, it will not be particularly problematic in this case, police inspector Odd Skei Kostveit tells NRK.
Kostveit confirms on the way to Varden that it is 35-year-old Jan Mathisen who was found in the Meierelva at Skotfoss in Skien on Thursday evening.
– We have no reason to believe that anyone other than the missing was found in the water, he says.
According to what Varden learns, many of the rumors revolve around Mathisen’s having suffered several injuries in the run-up to his disappearance, but there is little to indicate that this is true.
The police are waiting for the preliminary autopsy report, which will provide clear answers to several of the questions the police have.
Kostveit says that as of now there is little to indicate that the man has been exposed to anything punishable.
