It was Fredrik Monason Zachariassen (39) who died in the paraglider accident in Loen in Stryn on Thursday 2 May this year.

The 39-year-old was from Vestfold, writes Tønsbergs Blad. Zachariassen was a member of the Drammen & Omegn paraglider club and the Sande paraglider club, reports the Norwegian Air Sports Association (NLF).

– Circumstantial puzzle

The association is now investigating the incident. Trond Nilsen, the association’s head of hang gliding, paragliding and speed gliding, told BT on Monday that they are gathering information from witnesses and about weather data, the pilot and the equipment.

– Then we will do a review of the equipment together with the police in Stryn eventually, writes Nilsen in an e-mail.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the police. The picture is from the day of the accident.

According to the subject manager at NLF, it is far too early to say anything more about the cause than what has already been discussed. Nilsen also writes that their investigations are a complicated puzzle “which probably takes a couple of months to complete”.

The police: May have fallen tens of metres

BT has previously written that the man leaves behind a child. His current girlfriend witnessed the accident.

Police Superintendent Roger Gundersen at Stad police station says on Monday that there is a high probability that the 39-year-old may have fallen tens of metres. He also says that two new witnesses who saw parts of the incident have come forward.

– They have been questioned, he says.

The police are also waiting for the report from the autopsy of the deceased.

Nilsen in the NLF informed BT before the weekend that almost ten percent of the flights that their members log are from Loen.
