Microsoft: – We need more games like “Hi-Fi Rush”

--

(PressFire.no): On Tuesday it became known that Microsoft is shutting down several of its game studios.

Arkane Austin (“Redfall”), Tango Gameworks (“Hi-Fi Rush”) and Alpha Dog (“Mighty Doom”) were all axed, while Roundhouse Games was incorporated into ZeniMax Online Studios.

In a joint conference call with all employees of the Xbox Game Studios umbrella last night, on the other hand, boss Matt Booty took the floor and said that they need “smaller games that give us prestige and accolades”.

This after “Hi-Fi Rush”, a smaller game with a limited budget, from Tango Gameworks reached three million players in just four months and won awards at the Game Awards, GDC and BAFTA.

At the time of writing, the game has a 90 out of 100 on review aggregator Metacritic.

Xbox vice president of marketing Aaron Greenberg also took to Twitter to say that Hi-Fi Rush had been a “huge success for us and our players across all key metrics and expectations.”

– We couldn’t be happier with what the team at Tango Gameworks has delivered with this surprise release, Greenberg said.

“Hi-Fi Rush” is the highest-rated game Microsoft and Bethesda have ever released on Steam – where the game has “overwhelmingly positive” reviews from users.
