For a long period there has been silence in the tragic case of 22-year-old Mia Skadhauge Stevn, who was killed in Aalborg in Denmark in February 2022.
Yesterday, however, there was finally news in the case, which has become known as the “Mia case”. It emerged that a 37-year-old man has been formally charged with the murder of the young nursing student.
Now it turns out that it is not just the murder of the young woman he is accused of.
According to Ekstra Bladet, the charge is not only murder, but also rape and indecent handling of a corpse.
This is confirmed by Mette Grith Stage, who defends the man who was officially charged in the case earlier yesterday.
The man is identical to the man who was arrested three days after Mia Skadhauge Stevn’s disappearance in Aalborg in the early morning of 6 February last year and later also produced for a constitutional hearing.
– Overall, I can inform you that my client has been charged with rape, murder and indecent handling of a corpse, says Mette Grith Stage to Ekstra Bladet.
She also says that she cannot elaborate further, which is due to the fact that he has so far only given his testimony behind closed doors.
It is therefore not possible for the well-known defense attorney to elaborate on how the defendant himself has explained himself in the case.
Again, she says that he has not changed his approach to the case, which is that he denies guilt for murder. This has previously been stated to open the door, and therefore she can comment on it.
The trial against the 37-year-old man is scheduled as a jury trial, which will take place at the court in Aalborg starting in just over two months.
Nine days have been set aside for the case, and the first court hearing is scheduled for 7 June, while a verdict is expected on 29 June.
