It was an earthquake that Capcom created literally overnight on March 22nd, when players who first played Dragon’s Dogma 2 (as well as press who got early access to the game) were met with an unannounced opportunity for microtransactions for certain features and items in the fantasy game. Although the waters have calmed down now (an update has already arrived that has “calmed down” the original intentions), the precedent it has set for the future of single player games is there. Fortunately, there are companies that want to make their guidelines clear before future projects see the light of day, and CD Projekt Red has been the first to take the plunge.

The Polish studio behind The Witcher series and Cyberpunk 2077 answered the question by stating that they “do not see any possibility of introducing microtransactions in single-player games”, although they also (logically) clarify that “we do not rule out that in the future will use this solution in multiplayer projects”.

CD Projekt also revealed the current working situation in the studio and the distribution of employees on the various projects, stating that over 400 developers are working on Polaris, the working title of The Witcher 4 (thanks, VGC).
