Iran, Morality Police | Reveals secret documents: – Iranian Nika (16) was killed and sexually abused by the police

In 2022, 16-year-old Nika Shakarami was one of many who disappeared during demonstrations against the Iranian regime.

She was found nine days after she disappeared. Iranian authorities said at the time that she had taken her own life.

Now the British BBC has gained access to an internal document, produced by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, which tells what happened to Shakarami. It is marked “highly confidential”, writes the BBC.

The document is a summary of a hearing about the death. The BBC writes that it gives gruesome details of what happened in the back of a van after the Revolutionary Guards had arrested the 16-year-old girl:

• A man allegedly touched her private parts while sitting on top of her. It is said to have triggered an “uncontrollable sit-out” in the van.
• Even though she was handcuffed and held down, she fought to get free, kicking and cursing.
• This provoked the men to beat her with batons.

The BBC writes that there are a number of fake documents of this type in circulation. They have therefore spent time checking that it is genuine, and have come to the conclusion that what is in the document matches the latest observations of the woman.

Human Rights Watch has previously stated that hundreds of demonstrations were killed in Iran in 2022.

Shakarami was one of these, and her death was also duly reported. She became one of the symbols of “Women, life freedom” after she died as a victim of the women’s oppressive regime, but the regime has therefore believed that she committed suicide.

Eyewitnesses

Shakarami was filmed in Laleh Park in Tehran on September 20, 2022, shortly before she disappeared. Then she stood on a rubbish bin with a burning hijab in her hand. According to the authorities, she was found dead the following morning in a courtyard outside a building that was under construction, and that she allegedly may have jumped from the roof herself.

When the family received her dead body several days later, it was established that she had received several blows to the body. This did not sit well with a fall from a building.

CNN has previously investigated the circumstances surrounding the death. Iranian prosecutors have previously released a photo of a masked person, who they believed to be Shakarami, entering the unoccupied building. They believed she died after being thrown/fell from the building, and declared her death as a result of suicide.

Authorities never explained why she entered the building. CNN then wrote that several independent videos showed Shakarami being pursued and detained by Iranian security forces, and that she was taken into a car by several men. These witness observations thus fit with the document that the BBC has now obtained.

The document, which has been accessed by the BBC, is based on conversations with security personnel who oversaw the riots in Tehran that evening. It says that “Team 12” saw a woman who they perceived as a leadership figure, because she had a peculiar behavior and was on the phone a lot.

They then sent in a security police officer dressed as a protester, to verify that the person was a demonstration leader. Once this was verified, the team was called in to apprehend her. They searched for her for an hour before they found and arrested her.

The document says that Shakarami was in the back of the van together with three named security personnel.

In the report, the security personnel say that they had planned to take Shakarami to the detention center, but they were afraid that her aggressive behavior would affect other women in the detention center, thus making the situation more difficult. It was therefore decided that she should be transported to Evin Prison.

– Lost control

In the van, Shakarami was gagged with a sock in her mouth, placed on her stomach and one of the guards sat on top of her.

One of the guards says in the report that it was dark in the van, but that he saw one of the other guards feel Shakarami on the inside of his underwear. That in turn triggered more aggression. He could hear the batons hitting the young woman.

The man who allegedly groped Shakarami has denied this, but acknowledged that he was sexually aroused by sitting on top of her and feeling her bottom. This provoked Shakarami, who, despite being handcuffed to her back, managed to claw him and knock him off balance.

– She kicked my face, so I had to defend myself, he explained according to the document.

When the team leader finally stopped the car, he opened the back door and saw Shakarami’s lifeless, bloody body. He then asked if she was breathing, and was told that she was dead. The team leader did not want to increase the death toll in the custody of the security forces, and ordered the body to be dumped.

The report concludes that the sexual assault triggered the violence that killed the woman. Three batons and three stun guns were used.
