Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and former President Donald Trump were at each other’s throats as they both battled to become the Republican presidential nominee.

Now Trump has won that battle, and according to him, he has DeSantis’ full support.

This is reported by The Guardian, which refers to the Washington Post.

According to a post on Trump’s social medium Truth Social, the two former rivals should have met for breakfast and a round of golf in Florida on Sunday.

“I am very pleased to have the full and enthusiastic support of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. We had a great meeting yesterday hosted by our mutual friend Steve Witkoff at his beautiful Shell Bay Club in Hollywood, Florida,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform Monday afternoon.

Witkoff, an investor, is a friend and campaign donor to Trump. He has also been a witness for the former president in his civil trial in New York for business fraud.

Will not be vice president

The relationship between the two competitors has long been frosty.

During the nomination battle, abusive words were thrown from both camps. DeSantis described Trump as “unelectable,” while Trump, in his signature style, gave his rival a nickname. The choice fell on “Ron DeSanctimonious,” as Trump thought DeSantis was a hypocrite.

After Ron DeSantis withdrew from the nomination race and backed Trump’s nomination, the latter announced that he was going to put the nickname on the shelf.

But although DeSantis has given his support to Trump as the Republican presidential nominee, he has previously said he does not want to be named as Trump’s vice presidential nominee.

Who it is that will be Trump’s vice-presidential candidate is still uncertain.

DeSantis himself apparently hopes to run for president again in 2028.
