Opens for bomb

--

– I will certainly keep my eyes open for Stina, says Anders Byström to Expressen.

The Swedish national team manager’s statement is reported as a bombshell in the Swedish media.

Merciless verdict: – Failure

Three weeks after Nilsson announced that she was quitting biathlon and reporting a transition to cross-country skiing, the 30-year-old is suddenly a candidate for the World Ski Championships in Trondheim.

Expressen writes:

– Here comes some mildly exciting news. The national team opens the door for Stina Nilsson to the ski WC in Trondheim.

The Swedish newspaper refers to Astrid Øyre Slind, who does long-distance running on a daily basis, but who has asserted herself in championships. In Planica, she was a strong contributor to Norway shocking the Swedes and winning the relay. In addition, she took bronze in the skiathlon.

– Stina is competing on the same level as everyone else for a place at the WC, assures Byström.

When asked what is needed, the boss replies:

– Of course, she has to go to some selection races to join. You can’t just go in Ski Classics.

NEW VENTURE: On Instagram, Stina Nilsson explains why she went from being a cross-country skier to becoming a biathlete.

Nilsson himself has so far not commented on Byström’s statement. Frida Karlsson has done that. The Swedish cross-country queen has no doubt that her former teammate has what it takes to be able to compete in the championship next year.

– I’ve actually thought about it a bit. After all, Stina was an upper-body runner when she did cross-country skiing, while biathlon is more about the legs. I think this could suit her very well. I have faith in Stina, says Karlsson to Expressen.
