Nominated for manager of the year – got sacked

Liam Rosenior was one of three nominees for the manager of the year award in the English Championship series. On Tuesday, he was fired in Hull.

In November 2022, the 39-year-old was brought in for the coaching job at the club he had played for for five years of his active career. He saved the team from relegation, and last season Hull did so well that in December he got a new and improved contract valid until 2026.

He was also nominated for the manager of the season award along with Kieran McKenna (Ipswich, who won) and Daniel Farke (Leeds), but Hull narrowly missed out on the promotion play-offs. With just one win in the last four games, the team finished in 7th place, three points behind Norwich in the important 6th place.

– This is the most difficult decision I have made as chairman of this club. I have to disregard personal feelings and make decisions with the club’s long-term vision at the centre, says the club’s Turkish owner Acun Ilicali to Hull’s website.

– There is no doubt that we have made progress under Liam, and he will always be part of this family. Nevertheless, it has become clear that we have different visions for the club’s future, and I feel that the time has come to make a change.
