Kveen confirms this to Adressa.

– What can I say, when you are on more than 150 travel days a year, the load becomes high. It has been challenging, and I want to spend my time on my loved ones going forward, says Kveen to the newspaper.

Kveen initially had a contract until next season, but now gives up one year before the WC on home ground in Trondheim.

– I have stood the whole way, but now the batteries are drained. I have come to a crossroads and want to reduce the travel burden, he says.

Together with Sjur Ole Svarstad, Kveen has coached the Norwegian women’s national cross-country team since 2022. Before that, the 43-year-old coached Petter Northug in 2015.

Svarstad has had the role of head coach, while Kveen has been a coach.

The Trondheim newspaper writes that Kveen is returning to his job as cross-country coach at Meråker high school.

The World Cup season that the national team has just left behind did not turn out as hoped for the cross-country girls.

There were five Norwegian victories in the World Cup – all five taken by Kristine Stavå’s Skistad, who have chosen to be outside the national team.

Heidi Weng stood on the podium six times with two second places and three third places. Weng also took second place overall in the Tour de Ski.

Anne Kjersti Kalvå went into third place and her only podium in the last race of the season.
