PSG player Achraf Hakimi and the other Moroccan players felt rejected by the Qatari refereeing quartet during the bronze final of the World Cup, which Hakimi is said to have clearly communicated to FIFA president Gianni Infantino after the match.
The Morocco star confirmed that a confrontation arose to NRK.
– I was a bit upset about what happened in the match. But it will be between Infantino and me, I have a lot of respect for him, and when I met him a little later I regretted the words I had used. I was hurt after the match, says Hakimi to the channel.
SVT’s journalist at the stadium reported early on that the confrontation in the players’ tunnel between Hakimi and the FIFA president must have been loud and unpleasant.
– Infantino was totally insulted by Hakimi, who was clearly upset about the referee’s efforts both in this match and against France in the semi-final, says SVT’s Johan Kücükaslan about the case.
The journalist allegedly tried to take a photo of the scene, but was quickly told to delete it.
During the game, Infantino was booed when his name was mentioned by the announcer. The same thing happened during the medal ceremony.
Croatia won the bronze final 2–1 after two dream goals. Morocco has impressed greatly throughout the championship and finally ended up in fourth place. They were the first African team to reach a semi-final in a football World Cup.
