– Today we sent out a customer letter to all our young customers up to and including 34 years of age who have a home loan for young people with us, but not a first home loan. In the letter, we informed you that we are lowering the interest rate on your mortgage to 5.49 per cent, which is the same interest rate as our first home loans, says Øystein Kløvstad Langberg, head of communications at DNB.
Langberg states that the interest rate cut comes into effect today and applies to both existing and new loans.
The average interest rate cut for the loans is 0.11 per cent, and applies to around 19,000 DNB customers.
– We are keen to be competitive, and we always strive to offer good conditions compared to our competitors, says Langberg.
When DNB opened the accounting books for the first quarter of this year, it showed that interest income fell in line with the fact that the level of interest seems to have reached its peak.
DNB and other banks have raised lending rates at a rapid pace in line with Norges Bank’s interest rate hikes. Banks tend to make more money when interest rates rise.
In connection with the presentation of the quarterly report, Ulrik Ardal Zurcher, analyst at Nordea Markets, stated that DNB is struggling to be competitive.
– Then you can speculate as to whether they have to do something with the pricing of mortgages, Zurcher told E24.
DNB CEO Kjerstin Braathen stated that she does not agree with the analyst:
– We have received repeated proof that we have good prices, including in a good number of overviews that you have published in E24, SA Braathen in that connection.
Recently, DNB’s Sbanken concept cut the mortgage interest rate by 0.15 percentage points.
Several other banks have lowered interest rates recently. Landkreditt Bank cut in March. Sbanken, which is part of DNB, and Obos-banken have followed this week.
A number of banks also chose to drop interest rate cuts when Norges Bank last set the key interest rate before Christmas.
