Anette Trettebergstuen will not seek re-election

--

– I have just notified the nomination committee at home that there will not be another round at the Storting for me, Trettebergstuen tells VG profile Morten Hegseth in the podcast “Morten”.

Last summer, Trettebergstuen had to resign as Minister of Culture and Equality after breaking the competence regulations and appointing two friends to board positions. She has sat in the Storting since 2005.

She says that she already decided before the last election that this would be the last round.

– Did you ever consider changing your mind and running for re-election anyway?

– All the time, today at the latest. It is the best privilege in the world to be elected by the people and work with what you are passionate about, she tells VG.

She emphasizes that she both feels sad and at the same time thinks it is right.

– There is a heartache over it, at the same time as a new chapter opens, says Trettebergstuen in the podcast.

At the beginning of April, Økokrim dropped its investigation into Trettebergsuten as no criminal matter.

She says that the past year has not made her demotivated or bored.

– If anything, the last year made me want to continue working in politics. I realized more than ever how important it is to me and that I have by no means run out of courage, she says to VG.

In the podcast, she reminds that she has sat in the Storting for twenty years next year.

– It is a very long time. And I feel it’s time to let someone else go, she says.

Trettebergstuen emphasizes that she is not giving up on politics, even if she is leaving the Storting. And reminds that you do not need to sit in the Storting to be a minister.

– Have cleaned up

During the hearing in the Storting’s Control and Constitution Committee this autumn, she denied that she was warned before the appointments – and pointed to Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre (Ap) to explain why he said she was warned when she had to resign.

– How do you think Støre has treated you – and is he the right one for Ap going forward?

– Støre and I have cleaned up the mess around the use of words in his press conference, she says.

– What are you going to do now? asks Hegseth.

– I do not know. I want to continue in one form or another with what I am passionate about: Cultural policy, equality, media policy. I will spend the next year figuring it out, says Trettebergstuen.

When asked by Hegseth, she says that she would like to work in the media industry.

She also admits that she is worried about the success of Unge Høyre’s Ola Svenneby and Fpus Simen Velle.

– Perhaps what worries me the most is how these young boys seem to have gotten a little hold of our boys, while we have not, says the Ap politician.

She points out that she herself set up the Men’s Committee, which has recently delivered its work.

– I believe that for far too many years we have talked about equality as only a women’s struggle, so we end up with, for several reasons, a group of young boys who feel a bit alienated and overlooked, says Trettebergstuen.
