Renewable Norway felt compelled to reprimand its own director when he spoke weakly positively about nuclear power in Norway.
On 24 April, the Polytechnic Association organized a breakfast meeting where the theme was “What is the future of nuclear power in Norway?” The panel included Eivind Heløe, director of Fornybar Norge. [Minervas redaktør Nils August Andresen ledet paneldebatten, journ. anm.]
The debate proceeded calmly and peacefully, albeit slightly polemically: The representative from Norsk Kjernekraft promoted nuclear power as an important solution for the future, while Heløe emphasized the importance of wind. But Heløe spoke somewhat less dismissively of the prospects for nuclear power in Norway than what Fornybar Norge has previously done. This led, among other things, to follow-up in Teknisk Ukeblad, where Heløe is quoted as saying that some wind power plants can be replaced by nuclear power plants in 2045, when the concessions expire in 20 years. Heløe said that he was also not alone in seeing nuclear power as controversial or that it could be a possibility in the future.
It would turn out that this nuance was too expensive for Fornybar Norge. This week, the organization issued a denial that was sent to several newsrooms. In this denial, it is pointed out that Heløe spoke as a private person, and that this was unfortunate as he represented the industry organization during the breakfast meeting.
