In a case presentation, the director of health asks for political approval not to re-establish the operation of round-the-clock care places at Langene’s care centre. At the same time, the director of health will keep the health committee informed about assessments of alternative use of the premises at Langenes.
The health committee in Kristiansand municipality will consider the matter in its meeting on 14 May after the Council for the Elderly has had the matter for opinion on 8 May. The reason why the matter is now coming up is that in February 2023 the committee gave its approval to the relocation of 14 places from Langene’s care center to Kleplandstunet. This move was completed in April 2023.
In the justification for the director of health’s proposal, it is written, among other things, that moving operations has provided economies of scale, both financially and with regard to recruitment and better securing of the necessary expertise. Furthermore, significant investment costs are pointed out if operations at Langenes are to be resumed.
It is further pointed out that feedback from relatives after moving is mainly positive, although some emphasize that Langens is experienced as a small and cozy unit that they want residents to be able to move back to. Correspondingly, there has been a desire for the residents to be able to stay at Kleplandstunet.
Use of buildings
After the care center at Langens was vacated in 2023, the building has not been in use. The Director of Health states in the case that during May 2024, a temporary housing facility will be established for children and young people with extensive support needs in the field of habilitation.
“On this background, it is recommended that the operation of Langenes care center not be resumed, and that the relocation of residents and employees to Kleplandstunet be permanent,” concludes the director of health in his presentation of the case.
