There is a power struggle for the TV rights in winter sports. The crux of the matter is that FIS president Johan Eliasch wants FIS to have control over the TV rights, something he himself told Dagbladet in a major interview before last year’s season.
As of today, it is the national associations that own and sell them.
Eight countries, including Norway, have formed the “Snowflake” coalition. They have been very critical of FIS’s approach in the matter, and have wanted more dialogue.
On Wednesday, FIS president Eliasch moves against the coalition:
– It is a joke, to be honest, what they have proposed, says Eliasch to NRK.
He continues:
– Snowflake only wants to transfer ownership and management to itself. In that case, Snowflake will become the new international Skiing Association. Then the FIS would be history, claims Eliasch.
