Further down in the case, you will find the schools in numerical order in the children’s train and in alphabetical order with the place they have on the train.
This year, a few more schools have registered for the children’s train than last year. 120 schools have announced that they want to participate in the train in central Oslo.
As is the tradition, the celebrants from the Oslo schools will be the first to go on the train. These are Hovseter School, which turns 50 this year, and the two 100-year-olds Østmarka School and Sedsvoll School.
The special thing about Sedsvoll school is that it is not located in Oslo, but in Ullensaker municipality. It is a special boarding school for students with, among other things, social problems. Both school and boarding school are run by the Norwegian Education Agency in Oslo. The school offers an offer to students in grades 8–10. steps. The outdoor school activities at Sedsvoll started on 2 January 1924 and the offer was made to 40 boys, according to the school’s website.
Go first
The Norwegian Armed Forces’ staff music plays first on the train. This is followed by the May 17 Committee and representatives of the city’s political and administrative leadership. Then all the schools and the corps follow.
All pupils in primary and secondary schools can participate in the children’s train. It is up to each individual school to decide whether they will attend or not, and which grade levels at the school will be allowed to attend. Incidentally, there is no separate Russian train in Oslo.
Two stops
The train starts as usual at 10.00 at Festningsplassen, goes up Karl Johans gate past the Storting and the Palace, and ends at Rådhusplassen around 1:30 p.m. There are two stops along the way.
- The first time at 10.15 is when the 17 May Committee’s chairman greets the Storting.
- The second stop is at the Palace at approximately 10.30, where the 17 May committee leader greets the king and the royal family. The Defense Staff Band plays.
The head of the children’s train arrives at Rådhusplassen around 10.45.
Festivals and concerts
But the celebration of the day starts well before the children’s train departs. From 07.00 Oslo Janitsjar plays outside the Fossum, Paulus and Sinsen churches, while you can hear the Ruseløkka Janissary Orchestra outside Frogner and Torshov churches. From 08:00, the Ruseløkka Janissary Orchestra plays outside the Bekkelaget and Røa churches.
From 08.00 there will be wreaths at a number of different grave sites and statues in Oslo. Blue. a wreath is laid at the statue of Camilla Collett in Slottsparken where Ingrid Wergeland gives a speech and the Women’s Students’ Singing Association sings. A wreath is also laid at the bust of Fernanda Nissen in Torshovparken. Music artist Amanda Delara Nikman gives a speech and Torshovkorpset plays.
Here you will find the overview of the entire program and all restrictions.
Oslo Cathedral is open between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., and at 1 p.m. there is a festive service.
There will also be several concerts and dance performances at various locations in the city. Blue. there will be a guard drill at Universitetsplassen, where the guards will offer up a waltz.
The traditional festive concert will also take place this year on the Karpedammen stage, Akershus fortress at 3.30 p.m. Music, dance, theater and song performed by young talents from schools in Oslo, together with the Oslo Symphony Orchestra and a guest artist.
