The neighboring property’s topsoil will remain cultivated land for the foreseeable future, after Krf went against the majority cooperation and gave the soil conservation support in the inflamed case between landowners and recycling plants.

THE DRAMA: The dispute between the neighbors and Lindum has raged for a long time, but has not budged a millimeter. The farmers who currently grow grain on the fields in question have flatly refused to sell.

Thus, the solution could have been forced in the form of expropriation if the municipal council had given its blessing to the land use change that Lindum believes they need to meet their needs.

However, it did not work out that way – the municipal director’s recommendation to enter into mediation to expand the area of the waste disposal facility was not heard. Against the votes of the Høyre, Frp and the Pensioners’ Party, the majority gave their support to the soil protection, and the 110 measures of arable land, of which 90 are cultivated land, remain in the hands of the farmer.

Lindum’s plan for a waste landfill for contaminated masses was a return to agriculture in 30-50 years, but there are doubts as to whether this can be carried out in a proper manner. Among other things, objections have been raised from both the state administrator and the county council to the land use change, where topics have included contamination of groundwater and increased traffic congestion.

CROPLAND: Lindum’s area is surrounded by cultivated land on all sides, which makes expansion difficult, primarily for reasons of soil conservation.

No to timber terminal

In line with the chairman’s recommendation, the municipal council also turned down the thumbs down for a timber terminal at Juve – here also in line with the alderman’s recommendation.

– The municipal director considers that a possible timber port in the Drammen region must be investigated at regional level in a separate broad planning process, writes the municipal director in his recommendation.

Bokerøya in Svelvik was also protected for development during consideration in the municipal council, while the majority gave their approval for the municipality to mediate with the authorities related to the rezoning of large forest areas for residential purposes in the Solbergelva and parts of Åssiden.

In the negotiation committee that will handle the cases where the municipality does not accept the objections, the mayor, deputy mayor, group leader for Labor as the largest opposition party and representatives from the administration must participate.
