Short circuit in the high voltage system probably cause of explosion in bus

On Tuesday morning, a person was seriously injured during an explosion in an electric Yutong bus at Tide’s workshop at Mannsverk in Bergen. Bergens Tidende reported

Marianne Frønsdal, director of communications at Tide, writes in an SMS to TU that preliminary investigations indicate that there was a short circuit in the high voltage system in an electric bus that was in for repair.

Tide has 102 Yutong buses in operation in Bergen, but will not introduce preventive measures on the other buses as a result of the explosion.

– Based on the information we have received so far, there is nothing to indicate that we must take immediate preventive measures, and we are therefore awaiting the final conclusion, writes Frønsdal in the text message.

She refers Yutong importer Yes-EU for further questions about the incident. The importer has not responded to TU inquiries on Tuesday afternoon.

Yes-EU also has the service agreement on the Yutong buses in Bergen.

Gøran Rykkje, technical responsible for Yes-EU in Norway, tells BT that the injured person is an engineer from the Yutong factory in China who was on a stay in Norway. He will be transferred to the burns department at Haukeland University Hospital.

Rykkje says that there was no battery explosion, as the police initially reported.

– It may appear that something has happened to the control systems around the 650-volt high-voltage system itself. There has been some kind of explosion that has hit him who was injured, he tells BT.
