Influencer Kristin Gjelsvik (37) is no stranger to the occasional storm of criticism.

However, as a relatively new mother, the 37-year-old experienced that other people’s opinions about her were taken to extreme lengths.

– Completely went into the basement

Now she opens up about the experience she would rather have been without, as a guest in the podcast “Barnefri” with Jorun Stiansen (40).

– A cry for attention

It was in 2019 that Gjelsvik became a mother to her son Falk.

Four months after giving birth, a startling letter dropped into the letterbox – Gjelsvik had been reported to child protection.

The background for the letter was that the influencer had stated publicly that she wanted to give her son a plant-based diet.

– It was enough for me to be reported to the child protection agency for neglect, by a lady in Ålesund, she says in the episode.

She describes receiving the letter as very special. To this day, she still doesn’t understand the need for the “mommy police” to reprimand other mothers.

– I have tried to find an answer to that so many times. Is it that you think so highly of yourself that you think you are the only one sitting on the edge? Where does it come from? Is it a cry for attention? Some parents are not fit to be parents, we can agree on that, but in most cases it is the parents who know what is best for their child, she continues.

Million loss: – Damn ridiculous

– Not good at all

Although the child protection case was dropped almost immediately, Gjelsvik does not hide that the experience left its mark.

– It was so unpleasant that a letter came from child protection, it was not good at all. Of course, I think it was a bit “heavy”.

When asked what the influencer is most proud of, she describes herself as “the toughest person” she knows.

She agrees that, as a public figure, she must generally dare to stand up to criticism, but she also clarifies that incitement and hatred do not belong anywhere.
