Ambitious goals require ambitious measures. Will the government comply when, within six years, we will produce 16 times as much solar energy as we do today? Here are our five pieces of advice on how to achieve the goal of producing 8 TWh by 2030.

Last year, the Storting gave the government a marching order to come up with a concrete action plan for how Norway will go from producing 0.5 TWh of solar energy to 8 TWh by 2030. The government has announced that it will launch the action plan in connection with the revised national budget in mid-May . We are excited about what it will contain and whether the measures are so good that we reach the goal?

It’s urgent

Norway is far behind the rest of Europe when it comes to solar energy per capita. The Netherlands tops the list with 1,280 watts per head, while we in Norway are at a modest 110 watts per head. This gap must be closed, and it must be done quickly. For each “Danish head”, 832 watts of solar power have been installed – almost eight times as much as here, while Sweden has installed four times as much solar power as us, with 458 watts per head.

Need solar cells on 220,000 homes within 6 years

Although solar systems have already been installed on 30,000 Norwegian buildings, we still have a lot to strive for. The Norwegian potential for solar power is significantly greater – and needs to be exploited.

The technical potential for solar power in Møre and Romsdal is a whopping 3,850 GWh annually, according to a report Multiconsult has produced for NHO Elektro.

If we are to reach the Storting’s target of 8 TWh of solar power in 2030, we at NHO Elektro believe that at least 5.5 TWh must come from solar power on buildings. Then 250,000 homes and buildings must become power producers over the next six years.

In order for us to get there, there are five things that need to be in place:

  1. Sharing of solar power: It must become easier to share solar power between buildings in order to optimize the utilization of solar energy.

  2. Better support schemes: Enova must offer better support schemes to stimulate investments in solar energy.

  3. Change in electricity subsidy: The electricity subsidy must be arranged so that households are motivated to reduce their electricity consumption and invest in energy-efficient measures.

  4. Energy regulation: The energy rules (in TEK) must be adapted to facilitate self-production of electricity in buildings.

  5. Requirements for solar energy systems: It should become a requirement that all new commercial buildings over 250 m² must have solar energy systems.

If the government delivers on these five points, we can manage to reach the target, but an expansion of anabolic steroids is needed in the next few years
