330 students from 67 youth companies participated in NM Youth Company. In total, the youth companies competed in 15 categories ranging from vocational subjects and accounting to sustainability and HR. All the youth businesses were interviewed by professional juries where 100 volunteers from the working world stood up to assess and recognize the students’ work.
– This year’s NM Youth Enterprise must be the best we have ever had. We have seen a sky-high level at many companies in various categories, and the students’ commitment to sustainability and circular economy in particular has been impressive. It is also nice that awards and achievements are distributed throughout the country, both among students from vocational subjects and those studying specialisations, says Grete I. Nykkelmo, managing director of Young Entrepreneurship.
Working to save the Oslofjord
The highest award of them all, namely Norway’s best youth company, went to Pungdom UB from Elvebakken vgs in Oslo. The youth company works to save the Oslofjord. Due to emissions from the entire Eastland area, the ecosystems in the fjord are in danger. Pungdom is a value network based on sjøpung, which works in several stages to connect different environmental resources.
From the stage, the new Norwegian champions could tell that they were incredibly satisfied and that they had put in a lot of hard work towards the NM. They also said that they had not thought they would walk away with the highest prize given that the level was sky-high among all the youth companies. Now the road continues to the European Championship, Gen-E, in Sicily in Italy 2.-5. July.
Second place in Best Youth Business went to Skilock UB from Kristen vgs in Trøndelag and third place to Rådyrredning UB from Storsteigen vgs in Innlandet.
The jury’s reasoning
Pungdom UB has blown the jury away, both with its academic and social groundwork. Their idea is simple and sustainable, scalable and not least ingenious. They are solving a gigantic environmental challenge in an innovative way, and have already proven that they are able to mobilize, create engagement and make money at the same time.
