(GD) The Swedish Road Administration sent out a press release on Tuesday afternoon, in which they write that they expect a massive increase in traffic on Wednesday.

The reason is Christ’s Ascension Day on Thursday, and the possibilities for a long weekend for many of the people living in Eastern Norway are very present.

– Christ’s ascension is set to be the big May procession weekend this year, and queues are to be expected from the big cities, especially Oslo. That’s what section manager at the Road Traffic Center in Oslo East, Christian Prydz, says.

Although the majority of traffic is expected to go south or east towards Sweden, the Swedish Road Administration expects seven percent of the traffic to move towards Gudbrandsdalen or Østerdalen, which could also result in heavy traffic on our roads. Above all in the south of Gudbrandsdalen.

– The traffic is still greatest in Oslo and Bergen, says Prydz.

Be prepared

He recommends planning the trip before departure, and encourages people to follow the traffic warnings.

– Let someone other than the driver check for updates, or stop in a suitable place so that you avoid dangerous situations. Keep your eyes on the road and drive carefully, he emphasizes.

He asks people to consider going at times other than mid-afternoon on Wednesday.

– If you drive between 14 and 18, you must be prepared for delays, especially if you are driving out of Oslo on this day, he says.

– Drive carefully!

When the roads are free of snow, the Swedish Road Administration sees that more people take greater chances in traffic. Before departure day, they ask people to avoid unnecessary risks in traffic.

– We see that speed increases when spring arrives and the roads are free of snow and ice, and that more people take risks with dangerous overtaking. We would encourage people to plan well, slow down and not take unnecessary chances in traffic both on departure days and on other days, says Prydz.

Several MC drivers have also ventured out onto the roads after a long winter, and Prydz also has an important message for them.

– Now in May, many people have taken out their motorbike again after it has been sitting idle in the garage all winter. Most have not ridden a bike since last autumn, and are perhaps a bit rusty. In addition, there is still a lot of gravel on the roads in several places in the country. I would encourage you to be particularly attentive, and to take it easy!
