Egg deficiency, Egg | Taking action to save the May 17 breakfast

--

From 14 May to 24 July, there is zero duty on eggs and egg mass, the Directorate of Agriculture announced on Tuesday morning.

The reason why the customs duty is being removed is that we will get more eggs into the country - both for most people in the food shops and for the food industry.

So far this year, we have had a thousand tonnes of eggs too short in the country. Especially around Easter, many had to do without scrambled eggs and waffles.

To help with demand, the directorate lowered the customs duty, which led to more imports.

In January, February and March, around 700 tonnes of eggs were imported.

Need 2000 tons of eggs

The figures for April are not clear, but according to Nortura's forecast, around 1,000 tonnes of eggs were imported in April.

At the same time, a shortage of eggs is expected until August.

We will be forced to import around 2,000 tonnes more eggs, says the Directorate of Agriculture.
